Xavier Moreno

Within the last 5 years the tenor Xavier Moreno has sung the main leading roles of his repertoire and received critical acclaim at renowned international opera houses. Born in Barcelona, he studied voice, piano and choral conducting at the "Conservatori Superior del Liceu" and finished with highest distinction. Further studies led him to Prof. Ferran Gimeno.
After initial experiences in the ensemble of the Theatre Trier, he went on to the Mannheim National Theatre and established there between 2003 and 2008 a remarkable repertoire. Furthermore he was invited as guest to perform at such venues like Opera National de Paris (Bastille), Teatro Real (Madrid), Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), Hungarian Statel Opera (Budapest), Copenhagen Royal Opera , Tel Aviv Perfoming Arts Center, Latvian National Opera (Riga), Seoul Opera House, as well as at the theatres of Leipzig, Cologne, Hannover, Dortmund, Saarbrücken, Rouen, Limoges, Maribor, Rennes, Darmstadt, Halle, Wuppertal, Mainz or Heidelberg, a.o.

His current repertoire in Opera comprises roles such Don Alvaro (La Forza del destino), Don José (Carmen), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Don Carlo (Don Carlo), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Werther (Werther), although he has also sung Rodolfo (La Bohème), Alfredo (La Traviata), Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore), Lord Percy (Anna Bolena), Fernando (La Favorita), Duca (Rigoletto), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), and Alfred (Die Fledermaus), a.o.

His concert repertoire comprises works such as Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiem, Haydn’s Creation, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Beethoven’s “Christus am Oelberge” and 9th Symphony, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle, Elgar’s “The Dream of Gerontius” as well as Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Requiem. These works he performed at such venues like the Suntory or City Opera Hall (Tokyo), “Beethovenhalle” (Bonn), Konzerthaus Berlin, or the “Tonhalle” (Zürich) and with orchestras like the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Symphonic Orchestra, the Orchestra and Chorus of the Arena di Verona, the Hamburger Symphoniker, the Bochumer Symphoniker, the Symphonic Orchestra Haifa, the Israel Kibbutz Orchestra, the Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem, the Northern-Hungarian Symphony orchestra, and many others.

Remarkable recent and coming projects include Tosca (Cavaradossi) in Montevideo at Teatro Solis and Leipzig, Carmen (Don José) in the Opera of Bern (Switzerland), Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly again in the "Opera Leipzig", Don Alvaro in Verdi's La Forza del destino in the Staatstheater Hannover, and Cassio (Otello) at Teatro Real de Madrid

Since he did his debut as Cavaradossi in Puccini's Tosca (oct'14, Wuppertaler Bühne), he has sung this role in many venues such Oper Leipzig, Staatstheater Hannover, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Theater Hagen and Theater Trier.
Remarkable past projects include his debut as Don Alvaro (feb'15) in the "Oper Halle, his tour with the Danish National Opera (Jyske Opera) in Denmark with Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor (March- April 14), his Cologne Opera debut as Cassio in Verdi’s Otello new production (June 2014). his debut at Slovene National Theatre (Maribor), in June 2012, as Nemorino in Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore”, a new production of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” at the theatre of Hagen (Germany), from November 2012, and also a concert series in Tokyo of Rossini's "Petite Messe Solenelle", January 2013, with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

As regular guest he appears at many festivals, among them in 2004 at the Haydn-Festspiele in Eisenstadt as Nencio in Haydns L'Infedelt Delusa, 2005 at the Ruhr Triennale as Schubert in Hans Neuenfels production "Schumann, Schubert und der Schnee" (co-production with the Komische Oper Berlin, with performances there in 2006), and 2007 as Nemorino at the Wroclaw Opera Festival in Poland in Michal Znanieckis production of l'Elisir dAmore, as Edgardo at the Chiemgau Gut Immling Opera Festival (july 2013), and at the Final Gala concerts of the Eutiner Festspiele (2013)

Among the conductors with whom he has worked there has been Adam Fischer, James Conlon, Hartmut Haenchen, Renato Palumbo, Dan Ettinger, Frédéric Chaslin, György Ráth, Josep Caballé Domenech, Karl-Heinz Steffens, Catherine Rückwardt, Noam Zur and Cornelius Meister.
